Nepali Congress has secured a mayoral seat in Butwal Sub Metropolitan City. Khel Raj Pandey, who contested in the May 13 local election from the five-party alliance, has been elected for the post.
However, preparations are underway to announce his victory and it would take some time, said chief returning officer Lekhnath Paudel.
He won the seat by a margin of more than 7,000 votes against his closest rival from the CPN (UML), Baburam Bhattarai, it has been said.
Likewise, UML's Sabitra Aryal has been elected Deputy Mayor in the sub metropolis. She won the poll by a margin of around 7,000 votes against CPN (Unified Socialist)'s Chin Bahadur Gurung. The NC won 12 wards of the total 19 wards in the sub metropolis. Likewise, the UML has won five and the Unified Socialist and an independent candidate one each.
