District conventions of Nepali Congress are scheduled to be held today. Senior Advocate Gopal Krishna Ghimire, a member of the Congress Election Committee, informed that the convention of districts with two or more constituencies will start today as the 14th general convention.
Apart from Rasuwa, Khotang, Darchula, and Dhankuta, the districts in Hilly and Himalayan regions having one constituency had held the convention but the district conventions of those with more than one constituency were yet to be held. Re-election will be held in Solukhumbu on 30th November, following the candidates’ failure to get a majority in the first phase.
Earlier, the district convention was held only in Gorkha, which had two constituencies. So far, conventions have been held in more than 30 districts. The election process of district conventions in 42 districts across the country will move forward today.
Today, the district convention is being held in Lalitpur. It will be held in Kathmandu on Monday. In Makwanpur, however, the district convention will be held only after the state convention, according to the election commission. The date of district convention in Chitwan is still uncertain.
The selection of delegates for the Central General Convention is in its final stage and will be held in Kathmandu on 10th to 12th December. Before Congress’ state convention, the state convention will be held in Kathmandu on 2nd and 3rd December.
Nepali Congress Party had scheduled its 14th general convention for late November, after which the date was rescheduled for December 10 to 12 later.
