Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Dilendra Prasad Badu has said that the impeachment motion against Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Jabra will be discussed in the forthcoming House of Representatives meeting.
Talking to reporters at the Parliament House after today's meeting of the House of Representatives, Minister Badu informed that the proposal would proceed as per the provisions in the rules. He also informed that as per the provisions of our rules, the impeachment motion will be tabled in any meeting after seven days after its registration.
For that, there is a legal provision to form an 11-member impeachment recommendation committee. He also informed that they will have three months to prepare the material basis and bring the decision in the parliament again. He said, "The impeachment motion will be moved forward in the next meeting of the House of Representatives. It is being discussed. Since all the parties will be represented in the committee, we are taking time now to consult with all. The next meeting will discuss this."
The next meeting of the House of Representatives has been called for March 8. The ruling coalition had filed an impeachment motion against Chief Justice Jabbara in the parliament on February 13.
CPN (UML) Vice-Chairman Subash Chandra Nemwang said that no information was given about the impeachment motion at the beginning and no discussion has taken place so far. He said this in a conversation with journalists after today's parliament sitting.
