Groundbreaking Ceremony of the UT-1 Hydropower Project

The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Nepal, Tae-Young Park, attended the Groundbreaking Ceremony of the Upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower Project, which is being developed by KOEN (Korea South-East Power Co.).

 The Upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower Project is a 216 MW hydropower plant development project that is financed by KOEN, KIND (Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation), IFC, and international lenders including ADB and being constructed by Doosan Enerbility

Ambassador Park praised the UT-1 project in congratulatory remarks and said it is an excellent example of building Nepal's infrastructure through large-scale private foreign investment. He also mentioned that Korea could be a good friend (Ramro Saathi) in terms of foreign investment in the energy sector in Nepal.

Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation of Nepal, Shakti Bahadur Basnet also praised the South Korean investment in the 216MW UT-1 Hydropower Project through his congratulatory remarks, saying that it is a significant high-quality investment in Nepal’s hydropower sector.

During the event, Ambassador Park had a meeting with Minister Basnet, Secretary of the Ministry Dinesh Kumar Ghimire, and CEO of IBN (Investment Board Nepal) Sushil Bhatta. They discussed ways to increase Korea's investment in Nepal's energy sector and expand the cooperation between the two countries.
