The Embassy of Nepal in Bangladesh organized an event on ‘Strengthening Nepal-Bangladesh Tech Relations’ in Dhaka on Thursday to assess the ongoing bilateral collaboration on the IT sector and explore new areas for partnership in future.

As high as 90 participants including Secretary of ICT Division of the government of Bangladesh Shamsul Arefin, IT experts, entrepreneurs and academics from both Nepal and Bangladesh attended the programme, according to the Embassy of Nepal in Dhaka.

On the occasion, Nepal's Ambassador to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari said Nepal’s booming IT sector is generating numerous career opportunities, promoting innovation and entrepreneurship, and contributing to the overall economic growth of the country. "The development of the sector is driving innovation and digital transformation across various areas, such as healthcare, education, tourism, and finance."

Ambassador Bhandari said it is attracting international clients, leading to an increase in the country’s exports of IT products and services.

Given the pace of innovation and rapid diffusion of technology, the field of information and communication technology has changed for countries like ours where the digital divide and access to technology remains a formidable challenge, he observed.

He stated Nepal’s IT industry is poised to create up-and-coming employment opportunities in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and cyber security among others with the right investments in education, training, and infrastructure.

Ambassador Bhandari viewed that encouraging youth-centric policies provide a solid ground to harness talent and foster homegrown growth to ultimately help the country in its transition from labor export to service export.

In his statement, Ambassador Bhandari highlighted the importance of Nepal-Bangladesh partnership in the field of technology, which has been growing steadily in recent times.

"There are also engagements at various levels connecting the IT industries of both countries. Lately, there has been an increasing interest of investors and entrepreneurs from Bangladesh to explore new avenues in this area," he remarked.

Bhandari was of the view that these promising developments provide opportunities for our two countries to forge a mutually beneficial partnership in the IT sector.

The event was held in association with Nepal Association for Software and I.T. Service Companies and Genese Solution.

On the occasion, Secretary of ICT Division of Bangladesh Md. Shamsul Arefin shared the policies and initiatives of Bangladesh in the field of ICT and innovation.

Likewise, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology of the Government of Nepal Anil Kumar Dutta joined the event virtually from Kathmandu.

The event is expected to bring fresh outlook and perspective for the mutual benefit and promote cooperation and collaboration in the IT sector between two countries.
