In a collaboration, the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association (NNMGA), Nepal, and the US Nepal Climbers Association Inc. (USNCA), USA announce the First Tenzing Norgay Sherpa Open Climbing Competition (Top Rope Edition), scheduled to commence on Monday, January 29, 2024, at the Crimpanzee Adventure Hub in Bouddha, Kathmandu.
The competition will be held separately between men and women. The first, second, and third-place winners will receive cash prizes and hanging batches.
About Nepal National Mountain Guide Association (NNMGA), Nepal
Established on April 4, 2005, under the NGO Act 2034, NNMGA is a non-profit organization dedicated to uniting and enhancing the standards of professionals in the mountaineering field in Nepal. As a member country representative of the International Federation of Mountain Guide Association (UIAGM/IFMGA), NNMGA has played a pivotal role in shaping the trajectory of Nepalese mountaineering.
Objectives of NNMGA:
Assess participants to form professional national and international mountain guides (IFMGA Standard).
Improve safety and the quality of guiding services in climbing and mountaineering activities.
Define quality, professional guiding skills, and technical knowledge relevant to climbing and mountaineering.
NNMGA initiated formal mountain guide education under IFMGA guidance, becoming a member country representative in 2012. To date, NNMGA has successfully trained and produced 73 international mountain guides, embodying its perpetual commitment to its mission.
About US Nepal Climbers Association Inc. (USNCA), USA
Established in 2014, US Nepal Climbers Association Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering global growth and protection of mountaineering and climbing. Recognized by the Department of the Treasury, USNCA focuses on safe and ethical practices, responsible access, cultural preservation, and environmental protection in mountainous regions.
