Gaurika Singh, the Nepali swimmer, has set a national record in the 100-metre freestyle at the Tokyo Olympics.
In the heat held for 100 metres freestyle today, Singh completed the race with a timing of 1:00.11 minute, to come third among four competitors. Abiola Ogunbanwo of Nigeria topped the heat with a timing of 59.74 secs. However, Singh failed to qualify further in the event. Her other competitors were players from Montenegro and Guam.
Gaurika had set a national record at the 18th FINA World Championships in South Korea in 2019 with a timing of 1:00.62 minutes.
This is Singh's second participation in the Olympics following the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics, where she was the youngest competitor at 13 years old.
