KATHMANDU: Nepal has secured its first gold medal at the International Open Karate Championship in Pune, Maharashtra, India.
The gold was won in the 'kata' category for the 10-year age group, with Nepali karateka Siddhartha Rana emerging as the winner.
Over 100 athletes from various regions of India, as well as from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, are competing in the tournament, which is organized by the Indian National Karate Association.
The final matches for various age and weight categories will take place on Sunday and Monday.
Eighteen male and female athletes from Nepal are taking part in the competition.
