Nepal has won the gold medal in the USA Open International Karate Championship. Erica Gurung won the gold medal in the 18-20 age group of the competition being held in Texas, USA.
Erica won a silver medal at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. The silver medal won by Erica is the first and only silver medal won by any Nepali athlete in Asian Games karate.
Before the Hangzhou Asiad, Erica won gold at the 10th World Shitorio Karate Championship in Jakarta, Indonesia.
