Nimesh Gurung, a Nepali long-distance runner, has been part of a number of international competitions. Gurung has not only been working in Singapore but is also 5 times winning Singapore champion in long-distance running from 2013 to 2017. He has already won 5 gold medals in the World Police Championship (2 gold medals in the 2017 World Police Championship Games held in America and 3 gold medals in the 2019 World Championship in China).
He went to Singapore in 2008 from Madi Mulkharka, Sankhuwasabha. He started running in 2011 after seeing the success of other runners. He has established himself in the sport by working hard without a coach and has participated in 10 km, half marathon, and marathon races in 15 different countries.
No one in South Asia has been able to break the marathon record set by former Nepali runner Baikuntha Manandhar in 1987 at the 3rd South Asian Games held in Kolkata, India in 2 hours 15 minutes ०0.3 seconds. However, runner Nimesh Gurung has stated that he completed the marathon in 2 hours and 17 minutes.
In an interview given at the studio of NepalNews, the runner Gurung said that he is ready to teach Nepalese athletes through the experience he has gained in international competitions and help them be successful.
