Govt should provide ID cards to climbers: Nima Galzen

Nepali climber Nima Galzen Sherpa says the government should provide Nepali climbers with a special identity card. He expresses that it isn't fair for climbers who have risked their lives to set records in the mountains to wait in lines for hours even at the airports of Nepal. He further stated that climbers in foreign countries get to enjoy certain facilities.

While giving an interview in the studio of NepalNews, Nima Galzen said it is necessary to provide education to the children of climbers who lost their lives in the mountains to ensure a better livelihood for their families. According to him, the government should take action on this. Having lost his own brother in the mountains, he said that the government should prioritize such sensitive issues as the situation of such families is painful.

Climbing mountains is not easy and involves risk. Nima Galzen narrated the pain of losing 5 members in his camp at Everest Base Camp in the 2015 earthquake. In this context, he stressed the need to increase the amount of insurance for those who go to the mountains.

8 members of Nima Galzen Sherpa's family have climbed the world's highest peak, Mount Everest, and have received world record certificates. Pemba Dorje Sherpa of that family has climbed Mt. Everest 19 times, Furba Tenzing Sherpa 15 times, and Nima Galzen Sherpa 9 times.

Nima Glalzen recently successfully climbed 14 mountains higher than 8000 meters in the world. He said that he did those climbs not for a record but for his business. This increased the number of Nepalis who have climbed 14 mountains higher than 8 thousand meters to 6 people.

36-year-old climber Nima Galzen Sherpa said he still plans to climb mountains. He is going to Mt. Manaslu in the second week of September. So far he has climbed Manaslu 7 times.
