KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Gurkhas has become the fourth team to be knocked out of the league stage of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).
Currently in fifth place with 8 points, Kathmandu’s elimination was determined by their run rate.
Kathmandu's slim hopes of reaching the playoffs were dashed after Karnali Yaks, despite a heavy loss to Sudurpaschim Royals on Monday, secured their spot in the playoffs.
Karnali Yaks were bowled out for just 101 runs in 20 overs after losing the toss at Kirtipur, setting a target of 102 runs for Sudurpaschim.
In response, Sudurpaschim comfortably chased down the target in 15.2 overs, losing 4 wickets along the way.
Kathmandu's playoff hopes depended on Sudurpaschim finishing the chase in 13 overs or fewer, but with Sudurpaschim completing it in 15.2 overs, Kathmandu’s exit was sealed.
Sudurpaschim Royals are now at the top of the table with 12 points, having won 6 out of 7 matches. Janakpur Bolts, with 10 points from 7 matches, are in second place after losing 2 games in the league stage.
