Shanti Dhimal won the title of 'Himalayan Teej Chess Tournament'

Shanti Dhimal won the title of 'Himalayan Teej Chess Tournament' organized by Himalayan Chess Academy on Friday on the occasion of Haritalika Teej. She won the competition and captured the trophy.

Shanti of 1657 rating in five stages based on the Swiss system, defeated Priyansha Pradhan in the first stage, then Isha Koirala Paudel, Anaya Sainju, Nihana Shrestha and Angel Maharjan and became the champion with 5 points overall.

The 30-year-old Shanti is also a player of the Nepali team. She will play the 45th Chess Olympiad 2024 in Budapest, Hungary from next week.Shanti, an experienced player of the 44th Olympiad held in Chennai two years ago, achieved success by defeating Angel of 1646 rating in the decisive fifth round of the title bid in Teej Chess Tournament. Nihana Shrestha became runner-up with 4 points. Anaya Sanju finished third after falling behind Nihana in 'Bubbles' with equal 4 points.

Shanti, an experienced player of the 44th Olympiad held in Chennai two years ago, achieved success by defeating Angel of 1646 rating in the decisive fifth round of the title bid in Teej Chess Tournament.

Nihana and Anaya suffered the only loss in the match against Shanti.

In the tournament held at the chess hall of Thapathali, Himalayan Chess Academy, Pragya Pant (4 points) in U-15, Angel Maharjan (4 points) in U-13, Nayuma Magar (4 points) in U-11, Prajna Tuladhar (3 points) in U-9 ) and Charvi Khemka (3.5 points) became the first in U-7. They are all players of Himalayan Chess Academy.

Radha Rai stood first by scoring 2.5 points for veterans above 50 years of age.

 National Women's Football Team Captain Anjila Tumbapo Subba, Midfielder Priti Rai, All Nepal Independent Students Union (Socialist) President Aarti Lama, Tribhuvan University International Relations Lecturer Binita Nepali and others competed.

The technical aspects of the competition were also handled by women.

Academy founder Monalisha Khambu, Para Taekwondo coach Kabiraj Negi Lama, Foreign Ministry official Pratigya Rai presented the prizes and medals to the winners.

Himalayan Chess Academy is regularly giving chess training to 73 children. Teej Chess Tournament is the third tournament organized by the academy. The academy had earlier successfully organized SEE Cup and Himalayan 100.
