Gandaki Youth and Sports Minister Rajiv Gurung (Deepak Manange) has urged sports associations to start preparations for the ninth National Games to be held in Gandaki this year.
He urged the newly elected office bearers of Kaski District Boxing Association to start preparations for the national sports as the state government has allocated a budget for the preparation of sports associations. Minister Gurung informed that the state government has allocated Rs. 5 million for the preparation.
The National Sports Council plans to organize the Ninth National Games this coming February. Last year, the competition was postponed due to Covid-19. Sports Minister Gurung stressed the need to politicize sports.
"There should be no politicization in sports, everything should be stopped," he said, adding that the condition of sports other than football was deplorable in all the districts of the state and stressed the need to develop other sports.
Tej Bahadur Gurung, member secretary of the state sports council, said that only seven or eight sports coaches were available in the state. Association president Suman Shrestha said that globes, head guards, kick bags, and punching bags were needed for the training.
He said that it was difficult to start the training immediately as there were no trainers in all the 11 districts of Gandaki.
