The number of people seeking permission from the Department of Tourism to climb Manaslu Himal (8183 meters) has reached 157. According to the department, 33 women and 124 foreign climbers from 15 expeditions have obtained permission to climb Manaslu Himal till Monday.
Manaslu Himal is climbed in winter season. Climber Lakpa Sherpa said that foreign climbers used to come for climbing saying that it would be easier in winter than in rainy season.
On the other hand, three people, two men and a woman have taken permission to climb the world's second highest mountain Kanchenjunga.
The department has been giving discounts for climbers. The government has been offering revenue exemption during the winter and off-season, saying 12 months is possible for mountaineering and trekking.
Despite the pandemic, more than 400 foreign climbers have so far sought permission to climb Everest this rainy season. Sherpa, founder of ATK Expedition, said that foreign climbers have started coming to Nepal for mountaineering.
