The new runway of Gautam Buddha International Airport, Bhairahawa will be operational from April 22 this year.
The NEA Director General Engineer Pradip Adhikari is going to close the old 1,500 meter long runway of the airport and operate a new 3,000 meter long runway towards the international side. "We have published detailed technical information about the new airport's runway, runway, navigation, flight management system, and facilities at the airport in Aeronautical Information Regulation and Control," he said.
According to Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), the international flight will be operated from Buddha Jayanti on May 22 although the runway of Gautam Buddha International Airport will be operational from April 22 itself.
Foreign planes will now be able to land at Bhairahawa Airport incase of closure of Kathmandu Airport or any other emergency. According to the Director General, the tower of the airport has been in operation since the first week of February. Bhairahawa runway has been prepared for both narrow-body and wide-body. Mechanical test flight (calibration flight) has also been completed at this airport.
