Efforts have been launched to conserve the historic Panchdhare pond and Kirateshwor Dhunge Bagaicha located at Temkemaiyung Rural Municipality-9 in the district.
A detailed project report (DPR) is prepared for developing the pond and Bagaicha as an integrated tourist destination.
The pond and garden were established in 1944BS. The local level began works to develop these areas as the tourist destinations and link to economic aspects, according to ward chair Navraj Mangpahang. He also informed that even the federal ministry of tourism had allocated Rs 2 million to establish necessary structures at the pond and garden. "Central government has allocated some budget for the conservation of this historic area. It would be helpful to create structures needed," Mangpahang shared.
The historic form of the pond will be kept intact while creating new facilities. There is also a cave in the Kirateshwor Dhunge Bagaicha. The tourists can visit both places at once.
A local Baburam Shakya said there is a religious belief that that when a person visits Pandhare pond, his/her wish would be fulfilled. It is also believed that bad luck befalls people if they fish in the pond.
"It is both a historic and religious place," Shakya said, arguing that once it is developed, it would help boost economic activities here.
Bantawa and Mangapahang Rai people of Kirat community conduct puja and pray family deity at the pond.
Another Adhiraj Rai informed that even a Pokhari bazaar runs twice in a month here.
