It has been reported that Mera Peak, which is 6,476 metres above sea level and lies in the Everest region, is suitable for ski mountaineering. A study that was recently conducted to ascertain whether ski mountaineering is suitable at Mera Peak has revealed that the peak is appropriate for the purpose.
A team of two Nepali and two foreign mountaineers had not only scaled the peak but had also conducted a study to see whether Mera Peak was apt for ski mountaineering. On May 6, the two foreigners had reached atop Mera Peak and descend to the base camp in half an hour by skiing.
The study to find out whether skiing could be done on Mera Peak was conducted by Ski and Snowboarding Foundation Nepal in association with Ski Guides Nepal Treks and Expedition. Utsav Pathak, President of Ski and Snowboarding Foundation Nepal, said that the study was conducted to also ascertain whether ski training could be held in the region and it has been revealed that skiing is possible at Mera Peak.
Pathak further informed that ski training will be conducted at Mera Peak in preparation for the 2026 Winter Olympics to be held in Italy. He added that there are plans to form a skiing team to participate in the Olympics in Italy.
