Province 1 Minister of transport management and communications Upendra Prasad Ghimire has pledged to bring uniformity in traffic management in the province.
In his address to a discussion session on ‘traffic management’ organized by the District Administration Office, Morang here today, the minister said an online service for transportation issues would be launched from coming mid-March. He took time to insist on the contribution of all for effective traffic management and thus reducing road accidents.
As he briefed the program, efforts were underway to ensure provisions for spending revenue from the province traffic service sector within the province itself. He pledged to address the demands of the traffic police as well.
Transport management and communications Secretary Jay Kumar Ghimire claimed the provincial government was working responsibly to patch up issues in the traffic management while Chief District Officer Kashiraj Dahal explained that the ongoing road widening drive and the increasing traffic flow in narrow roads had posed challenges to the traffic management efforts. Insisting on traffic disciplines and road safety to minimize the cases of road accidents, he was of the view of spending traffic revenue on the safety of citizens.
According to the district traffic police chief Chandra Khadka, they had been facing a shortage of human resources for traffic management in the district.
Last year, the revenue collection from the traffic service sector in the district was Rs 42 million, and the collection so far in the current fiscal has reached 27.1 million. The district traffic police have just one Breathalyzer and have no speedometer, according to Khadka. The office building is in dire need of renovation, he said.
