PMC unveils 'Prosperous Touristic Pokhara' plan

A total of 1,143 foreign tourists visited Nepal through the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in June.

The Pokhara Metropolitan City has accorded priority to the promotion of local tourism in the changing context in the three-year periodic plan of the town.

The plan brought with the slogan of ‘Prosperous Touristic Pokhara’ has identified tourism as a means of serving the vision for sustainable and rapid development of the town.

The plan has laid a focus on the formulation and implementation of tourism policy and code of conduct so as to further promote local tourism and develop the city known for its touristic significance into a major tourism hub.

Besides this, literature, art and culture, and entrepreneurship development are other issues focused on, in the plan. The Metropolis has promised to play a leading role in the conservation and promotion of languages, art, culture, religions, and cultural heritages.

The plan presents the idea of developing the tourism business in a different way in the changed context and promoting the city into a destination of modern tourism and a center of knowledge, art, and culture.

“The three-year plan aims to transform the Metropolis significantly with the participation of people and advance towards the building of a socialism-oriented society as envisaged by the Constitution,” said Pokhara Metropolis Urban Planning Commission’s vice chair Dr Ramchandra Lamichhane.

According to him, the periodic plan has emphasised the goals of the blue lakes, rich culture, safe city, scientific perspective, and resilient and inclusive physical infrastructures.

The periodic plan prepared by the Commission incorporates 35 topics related to the plan and its thematic sectors.
