Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, Maha Prasad Adhikari, said that there is a challenge to keep the economic growth rate and inflation within the set target for the current fiscal year.
Commenting on the current economic situation in the Accounts Committee on Sunday, he said that the challenge was to reach the target of 7 percent this year.
He said that the challenge was compounded by the decline in paddy production and the effects of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic in the service sector.
He added that there is a challenge to maintain the target of keeping inflation within 6.5 percent in the current fiscal year. He said that there were both internal and external reasons for this.
He said liquidity has eased somewhat this year. Stating that the challenge in the economy is the pressure from the external sector, he said that the main reason for this is increasing imports.
