Agro centre pilots distributing farmers’ ID cards

Agro Centre Pvt Ltd has initiated providing farmer’s identity cards aiming to distribute fertilizer, seeds, and agriculture inputs to marginalized farmers at a subsidized price.

The centre based in Jhapa rural municipality-3 is the first organization in the district to distribute farmer ID cards. 

Centre chairperson Chandra Prasad Basnet said the ID cards were distributed to incentivize farmers and attract youths to agriculture.

The centre has stipulated certain eligibility criteria for obtaining the ID card. Among them having Nepali citizenship certificate, permanent residence of Nepal, agriculture dependant livelihood, placement of electric meter at home, details reflecting landowner identify, and person with no criminal offense.

Meanwhile, the centre has distributed ID cards to 25 farmers of the rural municipality. The token system would be introduced after the distribution of ID cards, the centre sources said.
