A brick factory has come into operation in Kalikot. The brick industry has been built to remove the need of bringing bricks from outside the district.
The brick industry has come into operation for the first time in Kalikot targeting the Himalayan districts of Jumla, Mugu, Kalikot, and Dailekh. The industry has been brought into operation by four local youths of Tilagufa Municipality-9 Chilkhaya of the district.
Operator Tekraj Shahi said that the industry was brought into operation at a cost of around Rs 3 million. "Brick production has started," he said, adding that about 150,000 bricks have been produced so far. Now we are ready to produce according to the demand for sale.”
The bricks are crucial for those who want to build houses fast, attractively, and with low investment, says industry operator Shahi. He said that the cost of red brick is Rs 24-25 per brick. The industry employs 27 people. Ratan Bahadur Shahi, president of Udyog Vanijya Sangh Kalikot, said that it would be easier and cheaper to use the bricks produced here as it would be expensive to transport them from the Terai region.
