Imports of roses have declined this year. Red roses worth Rs 1.565 million have been imported till mid-February of the current fiscal year. In the same period last year, a red rose worth Rs 29 lakh 38 thousand 893 had entered in the country.
Millions of rupees go to India annually due to the import of chocolate and roses targeted for Valentine's Day. According to the Floriculture Association Nepal, roses worth Rs. 200 million are traded in Nepal annually. There is a transaction of 20 million rupees for Valentine's Day. According to the association, domestic production is 30 percent and imports are 70 percent. Of the imported roses, 60 percent is consumed in Kathmandu Valley. Entrepreneurs say that the price per rose will be Rs 70 to Rs 100 this year.
