Farmers here have demanded an immediate increase in the price of milk. They have also warned to agitate if prices are not increased immediately. The Chitwan Milk Producers Cooperative Union Limited held a press conference here on Sunday and put pressure on it to increase the price.
They demand an increase of Rs 15 to 20 per liter in the price of milk. Association president Ratnamani Neupane said that the government is preparing for the agitation as the price has not increased even though it has been increasing since January 20. It is said that the government is preparing to give Rs. 7 to farmers and Rs. 3 to dairy industrialists by increasing the price by Rs. 10 per liter.
According to him, the current price of milk is Rs 52.50 per liter. He said that the price of animal feed has gone up so much that it will not cover the cost. Chairman Neupane said, “Due to the high price of grains, bran, straw, and medicine, the production cost is now Rs. 63 per liter. Therefore, the price should be increased to the benefit of the farmers. ” The government has not increased the price of milk for three years.
Currently, 63 percent of the district's milk producers are farmers. It has been producing 290,000 liters of milk daily. According to the association, 43 percent of the milk goes to Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Kaski and Makwanpur districts. According to a statement issued by the association, the consumption of livestock has increased by 10 to 15 percent.
