There is a shortage of petrol in Surkhet since Saturday. Even though 20,000 liters were supplied to five petrol pumps in Surkhet on Monday afternoon, it has not changed the situation.
A huge crowd of motorcycle, scooter and auto rickshaw drivers has been seen at the pump. A shortage of petroleum products has erupted in Surkhet after the police stopped a tanker carrying fuel at the Nepal-India border to implement a new 'excise code' by the Indian Oil Corporation.
Chief of Nepal Oil Corporation Fuel Depot Office Banke Deepak Prasad Ghimire said "The tankers stopped due to customs clearance's manual system." "The process of releasing the remaining tankers is also underway. We are preparing to send 60,000 liters of petrol to Surkhet by Tuesday afternoon," he explained.
The new customs code used by the Indian government has to be entered in the bank account as per 'Exit Code' and 'Import Export Code', which has affected the transportation of petroleum products from India.
