Police on Wednesday arrested 12 persons including six women allegedly involved in gambling at a private residence in Bhotebahal, Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC)-11.
Acting on a tip-off, police personnel deployed from Kalimati-based Metropolitan Police Circle (MPC) raided the residence of Dinesh Kumar Sherchan (50) and arrested him along with 11 others. Police also seized Rs 291,400, five cheques of various banks worth Rs 370,000, 21 decks of playing cards, and 45 coins from their possession.
Likewise, police arrested eight persons allegedly gambling in a private property at Nayapul, Nayabazar in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-16.
Police reached the site after they were informed that Mohammad Suleman (24), an Indian national was involved in conducting gambling activities.
Security personnel deployed from Lainchaur-based Metropolitan Police Circle (MPC) nabbed eight persons including Suleman. Police also recovered cash Rs 25,790 and three decks of playing cards from their possession.
Further investigation into both cases is underway, said the police.
