Police in Bhaktapur have arrested five persons for their alleged involvement in human trafficking and the sexual exploitation of a teenage girl.
The arrestees have been identified as Shyam Kumar Bhattarai alias Sargam (24) of Sunkoshi Rural Municipality-7, Sindhuli, currently living in Gokarneshwor Municipality, Kathmandu; Suhana Tamang (19) of Ghyanglekh Rural Municipality-3 and Muna Thapa Magar (31) of Suryagadhi Municipality-4, both living in Makalbari; Prakash Dhungel (52) of Gokarneshwor Municipality-5; and Raj Kumar Sunar (47) of Kageshwori Manahara Municipality-1 in Kathmandu.
The arrests were made after the victim's parents lodged a complaint with Bhaktapur-based Metropolitan Police Range (MPR) regarding the same. The victim's parents complained that Tamang on Thursday last week took their daughter to Kathmandu with a promise of providing her with a good job. They told police that Tamang and her accomplice Bhattarai took her hostage in a flat in Makalbari and further took her to Pathibhara Family Cottage and Khaja Ghar, a hotel in Sundarijal, where she was raped by Sunar, a customer arranged by Tamang.
Acting on the complaint, a team of police personnel deployed from the MPR, rounded up the accused persons and the hotel managers Dhungel and Thapa Magar.
Police also revealed that Tamang, the prime suspect, had been involved in human trafficking and sexual exploitation. She had been taking the unemployed girls and women hostage in a flat in Makalbari on the pretext of providing job and forcing them into prostitution.
One of the victims, however, managed to escape from the flat and came in contact with her parents, said police.
Meanwhile, investigation into the case is underway said police.
