KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Valley is experiencing rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms since Thursday morning. According to the Weather Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, several parts of the country, including the Valley, are currently receiving rain.

The division stated that heavy rainfall, along with thunder and lightning, has been observed in different areas of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur.

Rain has also been reported in Jhapa, Sunsari, and Solukhumbu districts of Koshi Province. Thunderstorms are presently affecting various areas in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and the Lamjung region of Lumbini Province.

Though the rain has paused at times, meteorologists expect precipitation to continue throughout Thursday and possibly into Friday.

Light rain also fell in some areas of Kathmandu Valley on Wednesday. This marks the Valley’s first notable rainfall in the last seven months.

The division added that the weather is likely to remain partly to mostly cloudy across the country today. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is possible in many hilly areas, especially in Koshi and Madhesh provinces, with chances of scattered showers in other regions. Light rain and snowfall are also expected in a few high-altitude and mountainous locations.
