Avoid black marketing, price hike and sale of substandard goods during festivals: Home Minister Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has stressed that controlling artificial shortage, black marketing, artificial price hike and sale of substandard goods should be prevented to ensure smooth and easy access to daily necessities.

During a discussion with stakeholders regarding easy supply management and effective market monitoring for the upcoming festivals, he said there must be a reasonable reason for the price increase. "Sale of low-quality food items usually happens during festivals. This is the time when poor quality goods reach consumers, so it must be looked at seriously."

The Home Minister said that results can be achieved when there is coordination between the concerned parties, and it will be evaluated in the next meeting held after the festival.

On the occasion, Home Secretary Eaknarayan Aryal said that the Department of Commerce should conduct Zoom meetings with all Assistant Chief District Officers to make market monitoring effective. He also said that this year fair price shops will be increased during the festivals including Dashain.

Director General of Department of Commercial Supply and Consumer Protection, Rajan Poudel, shared about the status of market monitoring and expectations from it, supply of essential daily food and consumer goods.

Similarly, stakeholders emphasized that the government should retain the right to set prices by removing the duplication of market monitoring.
