Britain’s chief Brexit minister said on Tuesday that relations between the United Kingdom and the European Union have suffered from turbulence.

Deputy Chairman of the National Planning Commission Dr. Vishwanath Poudel and Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Nepal Nikola Pollitt have discussed development partnership.

During the discussion held in Vice President Poudel's office today, various aspects of Nepal-United Kingdom relations, as well as development partnership and future mutual assistance, were discussed.

Secretary of the participating commission Kewal Prasad Bhandari said that discussions were held on the relationship between Nepal and the United Kingdom which is more than 200 years old, assistance received from that country for Nepal's socio-economic development, ongoing development projects, and mutual interests.

The United Kingdom recently provided more than 2.1 million doses of the estrogen vaccine to Nepal in support of the Government of Nepal's vaccination campaign against COVID-19.

Diplomatic relations between Nepal and the United Kingdom are the oldest. Diplomatic relations were established between the two countries in 1816 along with the Sugauli Treaty between Nepal and the then East India Company government of British India.
