KMC has no plan on the cards to merge community schools

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has made it clear that it has not planned to merge the community schools in the city at the moment.

There are currently 89 community schools in the KMC. Among them, 59 are secondary schools while the number of institutional schools stands at 504. The KMC is mulling to upscale all these schools running in the city, said Sitaram Koirala, Chief of Education Department at the KMC.

Koirala said, "Our main objective is to increase the number of students in the schools having lesser number of student, beautify infrastructures in the schools, provided with human resources and other resources to further enhance the quality of education in those schools."

There has been growing fascination towards community schools lately, he viewed, adding that if the students continue to enroll in the community in these ratio, the KMC might have to run community schools own its own.

Earlier, the KMC had been considering merger among those community schools having inadequate number of students. Koirala, at present, ruled out the possibility of merger.

The KMC has allocated Rs 50 million for the beautification of the community schools in the city while the overall budget allocated by the KMC for the education sector is over Rs 1.3 billion in the current fiscal year, it was shared.
