The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has said the vaccination with the first dose of the Vero Cell scheduled to be administered today was brought to halt due to the lack of vaccines.
Issuing a notice, the KMC has said the vaccination had to be halted since the vaccine allocated by the Health Office, Kathmandu was not enough and also it is less likely to receive the vaccines anytime soon.
Meanwhile, the meeting of the District Vaccine Coordination and Monitoring Committee, Kathmandu held today decided to administer the booster dose of the Vero Cell vaccine from August 27 for those who were administered the first dose of vaccines 21 days before.
The meeting held in presence of Kathmandu's Chief District Officer (CDO) Kali Prasad Parajuli, Kathmandu Health Office Chief Badri Bahadur Khadka, Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital Director Anup Bastola among other officials decided to carry on with the booster dose of vaccines manufactured in China from the booths established in all 32 wards of KMC.
CDO Parajuli told NepalNews that the first dose of vaccines had to be discontinued due to the lack of vaccines allocated to KMC.
"The KMC will continue administering the first dose of vaccines against COVID-19 as soon as Health Office, Kathmandu provides vaccines — AstraZeneca or Varo Cell," CDO Parajuli said.
Meanwhile, the meeting also decided to arrange for administering the first dose of anti-COVID vaccines to Nepal Scout and Rastriya Sewadal members who are 18 years old or above.
A total of 4,943,732 people have been administered the first dose of vaccines against COVID-19 in the country while 3,857,598 others have been fully vaccinated as of August 24, as per the data of the Ministry of Health and Population.
