Lalitpur witnesses rise in number of divorce, rape cases

Lalitpur district has witnessed an increase in the number of divorce and rape cases in the current fiscal year compared to that of the previous fiscal. According to details made public by Lalitpur District Court today, 1,207 cases related to divorce were filed at the court from August 17, 2018, when the Civil Code was introduced till date.

In the previous fiscal year 2076/77, a total of 336 cases related to divorce were filed at the Lalitpur District Court. In the current fiscal till July 8, the number of such cases filed at the court has risen to 441. Of the 441 divorce cases filed in the current fiscal, the court has issued a verdict on 269 cases whereas 172 cases are still being heard by the court.

Meanwhile, of the 336 divorce cases lodged in the last fiscal, the court issued a verdict on 231 cases last year itself while verdicts on 67 cases were issued in the current fiscal whereas 38 cases are still under scrutiny.

Similarly, the number of rape cases filed at the Lalitpur District Court has also increased. From August 17, 2018 till date the court has received 167 such cases.

In the last fiscal year 2076/77, a total of 66 rape cases were lodged at the court of which verdicts have been issued on 50 cases. In the current fiscal till July 8, a total of 69 rape cases have been filed at the court.
