National Conference of the CPN (Maoist Center) is starting in Kathmandu from today. The inauguration of the conference will be held at Pragya Bhawan in Kamaladi at 1 pm.
Maoists have already decided to transform the conference into the 8th General Convention as per the request made by the standing committee meeting held on Saturday. Maoist representatives including more than 1600 delegates have already arrived in Kathmandu to attend the conference. 1483 are regularly selected and 10 per cent or 148 nominated representatives will participate.
179 delegates have been elected from the organizing committee, 149 from advisors, 125 from the senior communist forum, 102 from the central department, 27 from central delegates and 803 from provincial representatives.
The conference will also elect a new 199-member leadership, including 15 members. So far, it seems certain that Pushpa Kamal Dahal will be the next president. Aspirants for the posts of vice-president, general secretary and secretary have also increased.
