The Nepal Students Union, a major sister organization of the Nepali Congress, has demanded an extension in the rape case. The Nevisangha today met Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Govinda Prasad Sharma 'Bandi' and demanded to amend the time limit in rape cases.
Central Chairman of the Nepali Union, Dujang Sherpa, said that the women victims of rape have been deprived of access to justice due to the one-year time limit.
"The perpetrators of heinous crimes like rape should not be acquitted under any circumstances. Strict action should be taken against the culprits and discriminatory legal provisions should be amended," he said. The Nevisangha has also demanded that a speedy decision be made in the courts on cases of violence and heinous crimes.
During the meeting, Minister Sharma said that the state was sensitive on such issues as it was the responsibility of the state to investigate any incident and take action against the culprits. He said that the government was positive to take forward the necessary law amendment process on such incidents.
