The government has advanced its preparation to bring ordinance to amend the Electricity Act, 2049 aiming at opening up avenues for power trade.

The Electricity Act, 2049 does not have the provision related to power trade. Due to the lack of such arrangement in the law, the government was not able to allow power trade to the private sector.

In order to open ways for private sector to participate in the power trade, the government was making preparation to amend the law.

The ordinance has reached to the office of the President. According to the Ministry of Energy, Water Resource and Irrigation, the ordinance would be introduced to create ways for power trade by addressing the demand of private sector.

It may be noted that the private sector has been demanding subsidy with the government on power trade. ---
