The Bhatbhateni Jatra, which is celebrated every year to find the lost jewels of Tundal Devi, is starting today.

The Bhatbhateni Jatra, which is started every year from Chaitra Shukla Chaturdashi, is being celebrated in Handigaun of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-5 and Tundal Devi Baluwatar of Ward No. 4 from today. Ramesh Dangol, chairman of Kathmandu-5, who is also the chairman of the Jatra Steering Committee, said that the Naxals would be brought for the Jatra.

He also informed me that he would be taken to Tundal Devi today as a deity of rice. It is said that all the preparations have been completed for the procession starting this evening. Bhatbhateni jatra is one of the important and unique processions celebrated in Kathmandu. It is also known as Handigaun, Tundal Devi, and Jewel Search Jatra.

For this procession, Bhatbhateni is taken out of the temple to be painted. There is a story about the beginning of this journey. Many years ago, Tundal Devi of Chandol, Mahalakshmi of Naxal, Manmainju of Balaju, and Nuwakoti Devi went to the place where the big lake is now for bathing. While bathing, Tundal Devi's jewelry got lost in the pool. Since then, the importance of this pond has increased and it has been named Gahanapokhari.
