The Supreme Court has sought a written response to scrapping the legal provision of giving impunity to policy-level corruption by restricting the jurisdiction of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).

A constitutional bench of acting Chief Justice Hari Krishna Karki, justices—Ishwor Khatiwada, Dr. Ananda Mohan Bhattarai, Prakash Man Singh Raut, and Sapana Pradhan Malla on Wednesday issued a show-cause notice seeking a written response in the name of the government on the writ petition filed regarding CIAA’s jurisdiction.

The SC demanded a written response to the provision that states that the agencies like the CIAA cannot investigate the decisions taken by the cabinet.

Six social organizations working in human rights and good governance had jointly filed the writ petition at the SC on this issue.
