Schools have gotten the permission to operate again in Kathmandu and other districts from September 17.
In a meeting convened by the Chief District Officer of Kathmandu on Tuesday, it was decided to analyze the health risk situation and submit a uniform action plan on which group or shift schools should be opened in coordination with the District Crisis Management Center.
The schools can only operate after teachers and staffs of the school have been vaccinated against COVID. Assistant Chief District Officer Kalpana Ghimire Nepal informed that the decision to open schools and other areas under 'smart lockdown' has already been taken. She clarified that it is not mandatory to open schools in high-risk areas.
The National Federation of Parents has also urged not to rush to open schools as the risk remains. FNCCI President Suprabhat Bhandari said that the school should not be reopened immediately as there are risks in urban areas, important festivals are approaching, not everyone has been vaccinated and a third wave may affect the nation.
