TAPLEJUNG: The Super Kabeli 'A' Hydropower Project has formally started power generation.
The project with a capacity of generating13.5 MW electricity is developed by Snow Rivers Limited. It is located at Yamphudin, Sirijangha Rural Municipality-8 in Taplejung district.
The power generated from this project has been fed to the national grid via Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA)'s the 32-kVA Amarpur substation at a distance of 31 kilometres from the powerhouse at Yamphudin.
Project public relations officer Meghnath Dhungana said the power produced from the project has been transmitted to the national grid after one week's successful test production.
The project has been constructed at an investment of two billion 632 million and 900 thousand rupees. Its construction was started in the second week of December in 2022.
With the construction of the Super Kabeli 'A' Project, the number of hydropower companies in the district has reached eight.
The 73-MW capacity Middle Tamor Hydropower Project is the major big project operating in Taplejung district so far. Sanima Hydro Company has developed this project.
Similarly, the 25MW-capacity Kabeli 'B-1' and the 10MW-capacity Kabeli 'B-1' Cascade Project operated by Arun Valley Hydropower Development Company are the other major hydropower projects in the district.
More than 18 hydropower projects are under construction in Taplejung at present. Power production will be further expanded after these projects are completed.
