UAE returnee arrested with 770gm gold at TIA

Airport security personnel detained a man after recovering 770 grams of gold from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on Thursday evening.

The arrested has been identified as Bishnu Bahadur Shahi (33) of Thulobheri Municipality-7, Dolpa district.

Shahi had returned from UAE travelling to Kathmandu via Fly Dubai Airlines flight. He had hidden the gold in a suitcase packed in an emergency light device. Shahi was caught smuggling precious yellow metal during a routine check conducted by TIA Customs Department through the XRAY process.

Subsequently, the police also nabbed the recipient who came to collect the gold from Shahi.

The arrested recipient has been identified as Bhupendra Paudel (38) of Putalibazar, Syangja.

Further investigation into the case is underway, informed police.
