KATHMANDU: Former DIG Chhabilal Joshi, who is involved in the Swarnalakshmi Cooperative fraud case, has been granted release on a bail of Rs 5 million.
The bench of Kathmandu District Court Judge Thakur Prasad Kharel ordered im to be released on a bail of Rs 5 million. He is in the process of posting the bail along with the court order.
The District Police Range, Kathmandu, had filed a case against Joshi through the District Public Prosecutor’s Office with a demand of Rs 57.896 million.
After the detention hearing was not completed on Sunday, Judge Kharel ordered Joshi to be handed over to the police. Joshi was taken into custody at the District Police Range, Kathmandu, in Bhadrakali. However, with the bail order on Monday, Chhabil has also received relief in Kathmandu, like Kaski.
Joshi, a partner of Rabi Lamichhane and Gitendra Babu Rai (GB) in Gorkha Media Network, was earlier released on bail of Rs 8.8 million in the Pokhara-based Surya Darshan Cooperative savings fraud case.
After Kaski District Court Judge Nitij Rai released Joshi on bail of Rs 8.8 million, he appeared for the case in Kathmandu.
Another case has been registered against Rabi and Chhabi in the Rupandehi District Court on Sunday. In Rupandehi, both Rabi and Chhabi have been made defendants in cooperative fraud and organized crime. A case has been filed against Rabi, claiming a fine of more than 40 million rupees.
In the cooperative fraud case, Ravi Lamichhane, the president of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has been released on bail of 6 million rupees by the Kathmandu District Court.
