Pasang: In the shadow of Everest makes its worldwide premiere

Pasang: In the shadow of Everest's world premiered at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in California, USA. The film is based on the story of the late Pasang Lhamu Sherpa, the first Nepali woman to climb Mount Everest. Her family members were also present at the premiere. The film, which was shot in Nepal and the United States, is 71 minutes long. An old video of Pasang, herself as well. The film also includes interviews with many people related to her mountaineering journey.

Her elder brother Ang Dorje Sherpa, younger brother Lhakpa Sherpa and her eldest daughter Dawa Futi Sherpa, former Nepali ambassador to Spain, were also present.

Dawa Yangjum Sherpa, a female Nepali mountain guide and climber was also present in the program.

The world premiere of Pasang movie was held on March 3 in the presence of special guests. Similarly, the movie Pasang was screened at the festival again on March 4 and 5.

The movie is directed by Nancy Svendsen and tells the story of the 32-year-old mother of three who became the first Nepali woman to climb Mt. Everest on 23 April, 1993. Back in the days, during the ascent, it was not an easy task for a woman but she had succeeded despite the long journey as well as gender discrimination, and racism. But sadly, on her way back from the summit, Pasang, who lost her life due to bad weather, strong winds and heavy snowfall, Pasang Lhamu and her fellow climber Sonam Chhiring died.

Pasang's body was brought to Kathmandu after her death, thousands of ​​people came to pay homage to her at the Dasharath Stadium.

The Santa Barbara International Film Festival, considered as one of the most important festivals, has been in the industry for 37 years since the festival was organized. For this year, a total of 200 films will be screened till March 12 and 48 world premieres are also being organized. This festival is also seen as the Pre-Oscar Festival.
