A documentary entitled 'Rajdrohi Rajneta (Rebel Statesman)' has been screened at BP Museum Sundarijal.

The documentary was screened under the aegis of the Sushil Koirala Memorial Foundation, anweshannews.com, and BP Museum.

BP Foundation chairperson and former general secretary of Nepali Congress (NC) Dr. Sashanka Koirala opened the program by offering garlands in the image of the first people-elected Prime Minster BP Koirala.

The documentary has captured some seminal activities of BP Koirala from 16 Poush 2033 to the declaration of the referendum in 2036 BS.

Distinguished personalities, including former minister duo, Chitralekha Yadav and Tarinidutta Chataut, former Bagmati province chief Anuradha Koirala and other senior journalists were present on the occasion.

Rendering comment after watching the documentary, noted journalist Kishor Nepal highlighted the need for a documentary reflecting the life of BP Koirala.

At the program, member-secretary of the Foundation Atul Koirala, chief editor of anweshannews.com jagat Nepal, and BP Museum Committee chairperson Parshuram Pokharel shared the content included in the documentary.

Rebel political leaders, including BP, Ganeshman Singh, and Krishna Prasad Bhattarai were imprisoned in Sundarijal Jail following the political coup staged by the then King Mahendra Bir Bikram Shah in 1 Poush 2017. The leaders were freed from jail in 2025 BS.

Likewise, BP and other leaders who returned home from exile with the principle of national unity and reconciliation were arrested from the airport and taken to Sundarijal Jail again in 2033 BS.

It may be noted that the democratic government had transformed the jail – where BP was held captive for around 10 years – into a museum on the occasion of the BP Jayanti. ---
