KATHMANDU: The film Purna Bahadur Ko Sarangi has achieved an unprecedented milestone in Nepali cinema, grossing 46.8 crore at the Central Management Ticket System (Box Office) under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. This success not only establishes a new record for the year 2081 BS but also marks a milestone in the field, as the film turns out to be a blockbuster.

Directed in Nepal’s countryside, the movie is subject to social themes, and the film was an important factor in increasing social consciousness. It created movement for the Nepali movie industry, with moviegoers flocking into cinema halls following a slowdown. Purna Bahadur KO Sarangi became popular for its engaging storyline that weaves true Nepali stories with themes relevant to Nepal, as opposed to the past movement of Bollywood or Hollywood script imitation.

This year, releases like Degree Maila, Boksi KO Ghar, Chhakka Panja 5, 12 Gaun, Hostel 3, and Anjila have also been box office successes. With three more movies—Basant, Pitambar, and Karma—yet to release, hopes for the success to continue are still on.

Actor Pradeep Khadka expressed hope that the latter half of the year would be as positive. He noted how Nepali cinema, with its focus on special topics and realistic storytelling, has been able to make waves. Director Milan Chams expressed his delight over the focus on content-driven films, encouraging the filmmakers and audiences alike.
