KATHMANDU: Basking in the success of Khusma, which was a high on emotions, the directors managed to come up with a new and important story — Jalaki. They’re this time venturing into the heart of the Magar tribe, inspired by a sacred symbol of love, memory. More than a film, Jalaki is an emotional journey honoring heritage, bonding, and the power of stories passed from generation to generation. The word Jalaki is applied to refer to a stone slab that symbolizes memory and love — a religious element in Magar culture.

Motion poster of the film came out on Friday, giving an introduction to the movie. Special blessing was given at sacred Bindhyabasini Temple at Pokhara and was shot on the very first day on the premises of Kalika Bhagawati Temple in Baglung.

Shooting, on the strength of a love triangle, revolves around Shambhala’s actor Sonam Topden, starring in the main role. After gaining international fame with Shambhala, which made history by being selected for the Berlin Film Festival, Topden is returning to domestic cinema through Jalaki, amid rumors of global projects.
The film also features Upasana Singh Thakuri, Astitwa Bhattachan, and Aakriti Rajbhandari — the latter making her debut after rising to fame in the globally trending music video Bardali by Sushant KC.

To be helmed by Ashok Thapamagar, the film will be shot in three schedules in scenic places like Rukum, Myagdi, Baglung, Pokhara, and even South Korea. The story is expected to prominently feature the vibrant cultures of the Magar and Gurung communities.

Produced under the label of M Media Pvt. Ltd., the film boasts an impressive lineup of producers like Om Ghartimagar, Bir Bahadur Lama, Chandra Bahadur Bhattachan, Betane Magar, Man Bahadur Dhanah Magar, and Sushmita Budhathoki.

The talented cast includes known names like Mao Tse Gurung, Buddhi Tamang, Sangita Thapamagar, Raju Regmimagar, and Khadka Bahadur Pun (Khabapu).Cinematography is led by the acclaimed Shailendra D. Karki, with music by SD Yogi and Sarita Rai.

With Khusma’s hit track Rukum Maikot already making it to YouTube’s global trending list, expectations are high for Jalaki to deliver another cultural and emotional masterpiece.
