KATHMANDU: Anmol KC, who started as a child artist in the film Dharma, continued to act in Superstar and Nepali Babu. But it was Hostel that raised him to fame, and he became a name on everybody’s tongue. Since then, he has acted in 16 films, most of which did well at the box office. But none of them have crossed the highly coveted 10-crore figure in the local market.
Some of his most notable works include Hostel, Jerry, Dreams, Gajalu, Kri, Captain, and A Mero Hajur 3 & 4. Unfortunately, Chhadke 2 turned out to be his lowest-grossing film, with a dismal collection of just 27 lakhs.
Reaching 10 crores at the box office is no longer an impossible feat, as even small-budget films have achieved it with ease. For instance, Purnabahadurko Sarangi was a record-breaker for all time, and it gave an indication of how the financial scale of Nepali cinema is increasing.
And now, it is the task and chance for Anmol to break his box office drought. His new release, Jerry on Top, by Sujoy Gurung has the potential to make his career restart. The big question is—can Jerry on Top push him into the elite 10-crore club? His previous film, Farki, performed moderately well, but expectations are higher this time.
Criticism of his acting has been a recurring topic among both critics and audiences. Additionally, none of his films have made it to the all-time top 10 box office earners, which raises concerns about his career trajectory. Anmol himself must be feeling the pressure.
Meanwhile, many new stars have entered the Nepali film industry, intensifying the competition. Anmol is now under scrutiny to prove his mettle as not just an actor but also a bankable star. He is at a turning point in his career—can Jerry on Top restore his image?
While Anmol KC is going to celebrate his birthday this Sunday, the fraternity and his fans eagerly await the success of his next big release.
