KATHMANDU: Bipin Karki, born on August 21, 1982, in Bahuni, Morang District, Nepal, is one of the most renowned and beloved actors in Nepali cinema and theatre. His extraordinary talent and his ability to portray complex characters have made him a household name not just in Nepal but internationally as well.

Early Life and Family

Born in Bahuni, Morang, Bipin developed an interest in acting from a young age. He first began performing in stage dramas alongside his brother, Arjun Karki. His early exposure to theatre sparked a passion that would shape his future career.

In 2016, Bipin tied the knot with Reshma Katuwal, and the couple has a daughter together. Despite his fame, Bipin remains grounded and devoted to his family.

Early Theatre Days

Bipin Karki’s acting journey began in his hometown, where he participated in various stage plays. His move to Kathmandu, Nepal’s cultural hub, was the next step in pursuing his career in theatre.

In 2005, he joined Gurukul Theatre, Nepal’s most renowned theatre institution, where he worked under the guidance of Sunil Pokharel, a leading figure in Nepali theatre. His performances at Gurukul allowed him to refine his craft and gain recognition from the audience.

Bipin’s close friend, Kamal Mani Nepal, who later became a famous actor himself, often worked alongside him in the early days of their careers. Their collaborations in theatre further enhanced their skills and helped establish their presence in Nepalese entertainment.

Transition to Cinema: Early Film Roles (2012–2015)

After gaining extensive experience in theatre, Bipin Karki made his transition to Nepali cinema. His debut in the film industry came in 2012 when he played a supporting role as a gangster in the popular crime film Loot, directed by Nischal Basnet. Though his role was minor, the film’s success catapulted Bipin into the spotlight.

In 2013, he portrayed the lead character Bindu in the action-drama Chhadke, a performance that earned him further attention. His second lead role came in 2014 in Suntali, where he played Bidur. While the film received mixed reviews, it offered Bipin valuable experience and helped establish his presence in Nepali cinema.

Breakthrough and Success (2016–2018)

Bipin’s breakthrough came in 2016 when he played the role of a villain in Pashupati Prasad. His intense and captivating performance earned him widespread acclaim and the prestigious National Film Award for Best Actor in a Negative Role.

Following this success, Bipin received his first leading role in Jatra, also released in 2016. The film was a massive hit, both commercially and critically, and solidified his place as one of Nepal’s top actors. His performance in Jatra won him the 9th Dcine Award for Best Actor.

In 2018, Bipin appeared in multiple roles, including the psychological drama Hari and the action-packed Gopi, further cementing his reputation as a versatile actor who could effortlessly switch between genres.
