KATHMANDU: Nepal’s largest multiplex chain, QFX, has closed four of its cinema halls. Three due to internal disputes and one due to a fire incident. The closure is expected to impact the box office collections of films.
Three QFX cinemas have been closed down since Monday due to rental disputes between Regal Cinemas and Bhatbhateni. The closed cinemas include QFX Bhaktapur, QFX Butwal, and QFX Biratnagar, which are run by Bhatbhateni. Also, a fire occurred on Wednesday at Central Plaza, Itahari, which targeted the QFX Theater.

QFX recently opened bookings for the Bollywood movie Sikandar, scheduled for release this Sunday. However, the shows have not been scheduled at the three theaters under Bhatbhateni. Initially, QFX management cited technical reasons for the closure on Monday.

However, as of Thursday, the theaters remain closed. Despite the release of one big Bollywood film this Sunday, no activity has resumed at QFX. Itahari theater’s resumption is also in doubt due to fire damage.

With big Nepali films lined up for release in upcoming weeks, the closure of four QFX cinemas will surely affect Nepali cinema business.
